Which Aromatherapy Scent Is Best for You? A Friendly Guide - Elixir Mind Body Boutique

Which Aromatherapy Scent Is Best for You? A Friendly Guide

Your scent should match your day

People ask me the same question all the time. Which scent should I use? My answer is always, "What kind of day are you having?"

A scent does more than smell nice. It can tell your body to slow down, wake up, or relax after a long day. I built every Elixir Mind Body Botanicals blend and product around our guests' needs I saw in my spa and massage studio. Sore shoulders. Racing thoughts at midnight. The 3 p.m. slump.

Every blend or single note uses pure, steam-distilled essential oils, never any synthetic fragrances. Here is how each one smells, how it feels, and when I reach for it.

The six signature blends

Relief: warm, spicy, and built for sore muscles

Relief smells like a spicy herbal tea with a cool mint finish. It blends 27 essential oils, including peppermint, eucalyptus, ginger, cinnamon, black pepper, chamomile, rosemary, and frankincense.

On your skin, it starts cool and turns warm. The cooling notes calm the surface while the warming ones settle into tight spots. When the ache eases, the tension in your head lets go too.

Reach for it after a hard workout, a day on your feet, or hours hunched over a laptop. Try the Relief Balm on your neck and shoulders, then soak in Relief Mineral Soaking Salts. Skip Relief if you are pregnant.

Recover: bright citrus for tired bodies and low moods

Recover smells like a bowl of fresh-cut fruit on a sunny counter. Pink grapefruit, lemon, lime, mandarin, and sweet orange lead. Litsea adds a soft lemony sweetness.

Citrus wakes up the senses and lifts a flat mood. The Recover Massage + Body Oil is perfect for tired muscles and a fatigued mind. You get two jobs done at once. Your legs feel looser, and your spirit feels lighter.

Reach for it after a long flight, a big hike, or a long stressful day.

Support: clove and cinnamon for cold and flu season

Support smells like a cozy holiday kitchen. Clove and cinnamon bring the warmth, and eucalyptus, rosemary, peppermint, and lemon are crisp and invigorating.

This is my fall and winter staple. The spice grounds you. The eucalyptus opens your breathing, and the citrus clears a foggy head. It's a great way to care of yourself before you feel run down.

Mist the Support Aromatherapy Spray in your shower for a lovely spa experience or around your home or office for a pick-me-up. Soak in Support salts when the weather turns cold.

Skip Support if you are pregnant.

Cleanse: crisp herbs for heavy, sluggish days

Cleanse smells like a green garden after rain. Basil, rosemary, and peppermint are front and center. Cedarwood, cypress, and juniper add a fresh forest note. Grapefruit, lemon, and orange brighten it. A touch of oregano and cinnamon warms the finish.

Some days your body just feels heavy. Cleanse was made for those days. It encourages circulation and supports your lymphatic system.

For added benefits, dry brush first, and massage in the Cleanse Massage + Body Oil.

Skip Cleanse if you are pregnant.

Tranquility: deep calm for restless nights

Tranquility smells like an evening walk through a pine forest with an orange in your pocket. Frankincense brings a soft, cozy feeling. Spruce adds a clean evergreen note. Blood orange keeps it sweet and light.

This is my sleep blend. Frankincense slows your breathing. Spruce makes you feel grounded. Blood orange reduces stress. Together, they quiet the replay of the day in your head.

Spray the Tranquility Aromatherapy Spray on your pillow and linens before bed, and enjoy a soak in Tranquility Mineral Soaking Salts before lights out.

Radiant: a clean, floral reset

Radiant is a diverse fragrance family that captures the natural, sweet, and aromatic profile of blooming flowers. Bergamot and lemongrass bring a sunny citrus note. Geranium adds a soft floral note. Eucalyptus, tea tree, cedarwood, and juniper berry feel fresh.

Radiant lifts you up without revving you up. It balances wellness and indulgence.

Reach for it on a Sunday reset, before a big day, or anytime you want to smell and feel elegant. The Radiant Massage + Body Oil makes a lovely after-shower moisturizer.

The simple scents

Sometimes you want one clear note instead of a blend. These five keep it simple.

Lavender: soft, floral, and sleepy

Lavender smells clean and floral with a light herbal edge. It calms your mind and helps your body settle. It is the most versatile oil I sell. Use the nurturing lavender Magnesium + Goat's Milk Bath before bed, or roll the Headache Relief Roller on your temples and on the back of your neck when stress starts to take a toll.

Vanilla: warm, sweet, and cozy

Vanilla smells like a warm bakery. It feels like a hug in a bathtub. The Vanilla Magnesium + Goat's Milk Bath turns into a creamy, silky soak that quiets your nervous system. Save it for cold nights and slow weekends.

Citrus: six citrus oils in one bright burst

Citrus smells like sunshine in a bottle. It lifts your mood and gives you a clean shot of energy without caffeine. Use several drops in a diffuser when you're working or studying to help keep you alert while helping to reduce anxiety.

Spearmint: cool and refreshing

Spearmint is sweeter and gentler than peppermint. It clears your head and perks you up. Diffuse it at your desk when your focus fades.

Eucalyptus: crisp and clear

Eucalyptus smells like a steam room. One breath and your sinuses open, supporting easy breathing. Add a few drops to a humidifier or a warm bath when your head feels stuffy.

Lavender, Citrus, Spearmint, and Eucalyptus are single-scent pure essential oils, available alongside the Tranquility and Radiant blends.

A few friendly cautions

•         Relief, Support, and Cleanse contain oils to avoid during pregnancy.

•         The Citrus, Recover, Tranquility, and Radiant essential oils can make skin more sensitive to the sun.

•         Always dilute pure essential oils in a carrier oil before they touch your skin.

•         Keep oils and balms away from your eyes, and wash your hands after using Relief Balm.
